This is one of the odd cards inside the minor arcana. Because of all the symbols on the card, there are nearly limitless ways to interpret this card. Then again, that is exactly what the card itself seems to show about emotions, the wistful nature of it. It is as much about all the choices the card represents in itself as it is about the chaos in the card. This can be in the form of having to figure out just what you want, making hard, murky choices or the simple need to focus much more on things in your life.
This card can also show the need for chaos or the need to control some chaos. It is easy to put off work in favor of something more interesting, but it is something that will need to get done sooner or later. By the same token, just scheduling everything leaves nothing to chance and everything will grow stagnant. Too much work is just as bad as too much play. The Seven of Cups shows the two extremes very clearly in its own way. This card can be a reminder and a reprimand at once.
With this card, while it shows many choices, you must ultimately make up your mind and choose something from the plethora of choices. For all the choices that are there, all the hopes and dreams, only those you choose will become real. All the options come down to what you are willing to work toward.
